After years of vacancy and vandalism, and the threat of demolition by the city, the historic Marquette Hotel was given a new chance in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. On July 12, 2002, the state of Missouri awarded a contract to Prost Builders of Jefferson City to house state offices in the Marquette for a period of ten years.

After two years of extensive renovation the building, now known as Marquette Tower, was officially re-opened on September 8, 2004. Thank you to everyone who has shown support for the hotel, and to Governor Holden for giving preference to historic properties for new state offices (more info) - you saved the Marquette!
